Clinton seeks to regain the spotlight

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton won primaries in Rhode Island, Ohio and Texas Tuesday, as the historic race for the Democratic nomination tightened once again and seemed certain to go on into the indefinite future.

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama won Vermont — his 12th victory in a row.

But Clinton, in a raucous appearance in Columbus, Ohio, sought to make the case that even the partial results represented a comeback from the political grave.

“For everyone who has stumbled and stood right back up and for everyone who works hard and never gives up, this one is for you!” Clinton said. “You know what they say: as Ohio goes, so goes the nation. Well, this nation’s coming back and so is this campaign.”

“We are in the middle of a very close race right now in Texas; we may not know the final results until morning,” Obama told supporters in San Antonio. “No matter what happens tonight, we have nearly the same delegate lead we had this morning and we are on the way to winning the nomination”
