House Judiciary Subcommittee - Happy al Qaeda Gets To I.D. A Witness
Conyers, Nadler, Delahunt and the Dems shamelessly badgered and harangued the witnesses; Yoo, polite to a fault, repeatedly attempted to answer questions, only to be cut off by foaming jerks who twisted his words or indignantly claimed he was “conceding” some point that he had just established himself.
Addington, Chief of Staff to the Vice President, gave hostile answers to the Democrats who control the committee but remained calm and relaxed, stroking his beard or resting his head on his chin, sometimes pausing for several seconds before giving an answer. Rep. Jerrold Nadler, the New York Democrat who heads the subcommittee, told reporters he thought Addington was being smug.
The panel’s Democrats grew increasingly irate, with several shouting at the witnesses.
In the first part of the video Rep. Conyers shows his arrogance as he questions Prof. John Yoo, a former Justice Department lawyer on Detainee Treatment.
Yoo, a professor at the University of California-Berkeley, appeared voluntarily but repeatedly refused to answer questions, insisting the Justice Department had instructed him not to address a range of questions. When Nadler told him he would have to give a specific reason, Yoo struggled, whispering with his lawyers before finally saying he could not violate attorney-client privilege or reveal classified information.
“What is the answer?” Michigan Rep. John Conyers, the House Judiciary Committee chairman, yelled at Yoo. “You’re wasting my time!”
Rep. Delahunt (D-MA) Questions David Addington, Chief of Staff to the Vice President on Detainee Treatment.
Mr Addington stated to the committee, “No American should think we’re free, the war is over, al Qaeda is not coming and they’re not interested in getting us,” Addington told the House Judiciary Committee. “Because that’s wrong.” He also pointed out he couldn’t talk freely to Rep. Delahunt because al Qaeda could be watching.
Delahunt sarcastically told Addington that he was “glad” al Qaeda finally got the chance to watch him (Addington) on TV.
