It’s not often that Obama is challenged aggressively, and when he is he often responds with resentment. He’s not accustomed to reporters giving the alternative position and critique, and when it happens he attacks them as the opposition rather than accepting what reporters should do, play devil’s advocate.
McCain typically does well in debates, and although Obama has his moments of grandiose rhetoric he often doesn’t fare well when he doesn’t know the questions ahead of time. In a debate you’re performance depends at least in part on the strength of the positions, and McCain has the better positions to use against his opponent.
