Obama’s America, “The Collective Would Set The Social Imperatives”
What Barack is espousing is, the powers of government, the rights and responsibilities of individual citizens, are to be decided by the “general will” - that is, the will of the people.
Obama’s idea of collectivism sounds like Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s Social Contract, an example of collectivist political philosophy.
Barack would have the collective set the social imperative on technologies, welfare provisions, education, occupations, industrial relations and on the environment. He would set a technological policy which, in his socialist society, must follow those social imperatives. Obama’s course for America arrives at a conclusion that the crucial condition for keeping the social promises given by the state and party authorities is at present participatory democracy on a micro as well as macro-level of society.
